The Initiative Bauen mit Backstein decided to give the architecture prize an new name
At its annual general meeting, the Building with Brick Initiative decided to give its competition for outstanding brick architecture a new name. The decision was made on the basis of a new, specially commissioned study by the Hamburg historian Prof. Thomas Großbölting on Fritz Höger's Nazi past. FRITZ HÖGER AWARD 2020 – THE WINNERS
No other award for brick receives as much international attention as the Fritz Höger Award for Brick Architecture. A total of 568 projects from around the world competed in 2020. The 48 Winners have once again led the impressive proof that brick really does make great things possible in building. See for yourself!

The jury didn’t make the decision easy but now it’s official: Seven international projects can look forward to recieve an award in Gold. For the first time even two Grand Prix were awarded!
With 586 projects submitted almost as many architects participated at the 2020 Fritz Höger Award for Brick Architecture as there were participants at the last award 2017 – despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Award for Brick Architecture, which was first awarded in 2008, takes place every three years and is one of the largest German architectural awards. It honors projects that use the potential of a traditional building material in a valid way to create special, remarkable and sustainable architecture.

VORTEILE – THE BRICK MAGAZINE
Our newest brick magazine VORTEILE portraits the sensational winner projects of the Award 2020. For the first time two projects were awarded the Grand Prix: Despite very different approaches to brick, both winners impressed the judging panel with their clear design concept.
Building something big
Together with our partners we try to create a platform for sophisticated architecture. The Association of German Architects (Bund Deutscher Architekten, BDA) and our media partners provide substance, foundation and expression to the architectural competition as well as communicative power to the award.
